Religious Education Curriculum
The Way, The Truth and the Life
RE coordinators: Mrs T Ebbrell and Mrs C May
RE Governor: Mrs S Daltrey
This academic year, the children in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be taught using 'The Vine and the Branches'. The Vine and the Branches is a new resource from the Teachers' Enterprise in Religious Education. It helps teachers to deliver the requirements of the 2023 edition of the Religious Education Directory. It is written in pupil friendly language with clear indications for the teacher to show where the Knowedge Lens content and Ways of Knowing are being covered.
The programme is divided into 6 Branches,
Creation and Covenant
Prophecy and Promise
Galilee to Jerusalem
Desert to Garden
To the Ends of the Earth
Dialogue and Encounter
For each of the six Branches, there are five or six units. Each unit begins with Scripture and the whole scheme is based around listening to and becoming familar with the Word of God.
In EYFS and Year 5/6, our Religion Curriculum is based on the RE Curriculum Directory, supported by 'The Way The Truth and The Life.' This Syllabus is based on the Religious Education Curriculum Directory and therefore the contents of the Teachers Book, Big Book and Pupil’s work book fulfil the requirements of the Bishops’ Conference for Religious Education in Catholic Schools.
The great strength of this series is its simplicity and clarity. It is attractive, lively and appealing to both teachers and pupils.
The book provides theological notes, stories, a large variety of activities, guidance on assessment and suggestions for questions on the Big Book. There is also included a variety of supporting resources such as websites, videos and songs. The very attractive Pupil’s Work Book should encourage children to take pride in their work and be able to share it with their familIes.
Year 5/6 work on a two year cycle programme. They are currently working on Cycle A of The Way, The Truth and The Life.
In Year 3, pupils are supported in the preparation to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
